Stepping from the pages of Fredrik Backman s international best-selling novel, Ove is the quintessential angry old man next door. An isolated retiree with strict principles and a short fuse, who spends his days enforcing block association rules that only he cares about, and visiting his wife s grave, Ove has given up on life. Enter a boisterous young family next door who accidentally flattens Ove s mailbox while moving in and earning his special brand of ire. Yet from this inauspicious beginning an unlikely friendship forms and we come to understand Ove s past happiness and heartbreaks. What emerges is a heartwarming tale of unreliable first impressions and the gentle reminder that life is sweeter when it's shared. Desperate to save the orphanage from closure, he returns to Denmark to meet Jorgen (Rolf Lassgard) a wealthy businessman and potential benefactor. What appears to be nothing more than a friendly gesture to attend a wedding sets in motion an increasingly devastating series of surprises, revelations, and confessions that will forever change their lives.

Equal parts weepy drama and soap opera, After the Wedding is a beautifully filmed story centering on Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen, Casino Royale), a Danish man working at a orphanage in Bombay. Just when funds have run desperately low, Jorgen (Rolf Lassgård)--a wealthy benefactor--promises to donate millions of dollars to the orphanage. But there's a catch. Jacob must collect the funds himself in Copenhagen... and attend the wedding of the eccentric millionaire's daughter. But once Jacob meets the benefactor's wife Helene (played by a radiant Sidse Babett Knudsen), it's obvious to the viewer that the two have a complicated history. It’s also likely that her daughter Anna (Stine Fischer Christensen) most probably is theirs. So why did Jorgen invite Jacob to Anna's wedding? Does he know Jacob is Anna's father? Is something nefarious in the works? The thought-provoking film was Denmark's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2007 Academy Awards. Subtitled in English, the Danish picture is well helmed by director Susanne Bier (Brothers), who manages to keep the film from delving into over the top histrionics. Mikkelsen is particularly good, whether he's channeling his anger at having been shut out of his maybe-daughter's life for the past 20 years, or having to grovel a bit to get Jorgen to donate the funds as promised to his orphanage. The relationships here are messy and often uncomfortable. But they also ring true to life. --Jae-Ha Kim

IN SWEDISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES Every criminal has his own handwriting, but only Sebastian Bergman can read it.
Bergman is Sweden's most famous criminal profiler, having written a definitive, best-selling book about workings of the criminal mind. He's played by Swedish actor Rolf Lassgard, famous for his performance as the original Wallander, based on Henning Mankell's wildly popular crime novels. Bergman is strong-headed, politically incorrect, intuitive, abrasive and grief stricken. He's yet to come to terms with the loss of his wife and daughter from the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, an event that caused his life to careen out of control and derailed his work with the Stockholm police department. Personal compulsions numb the pain and make him into his own worst enemy. His life and career are completely on the skids when he returns to his hometown, two weeks late for his mother's funeral but just in time to help the local police solve the brutal murder of a 15-year-old boy. Then, a revelation from his past jump-starts his efforts to get his life back in order and deal with his sexual addiction. He s learned that therapy won't help; what he needs is to get back to work. When the Stockholm police realize they have a serial killer on their hands, Bergman knows he s still got it and insists they hire him. It's a race against the clock to catch a murderer who appears to be modeling his attacks on those of a deadly criminal Bergman put behind bars years ago. The chase is on; catching killers is the one thing he knows how to do best.

He's struggling to come to terms with the loss of his wife and young daughter from the 2004 tsunami in Thailand, an event that caused his life to careen out of control. Returning to work, Bergman had one more surprise waiting for him - an adult daughter he never knew he had, now working alongside him as a fellow investigator in the Stockholm police department. When Bergman finds out that she might be chosen to participate in an FBI training camp in America, he's desperate not to lose her. At the same time, he discovers a personal connection in the case of three girls who were found dead in a small-town mine. It could have been a triple suicide or murder. More dark secrets emerge as the corpse of a notorious serial killer is found buried in a field. Clues lead to a nearby convent, where the body of a young girl is also unearthed. He has to figure out who killed the girl and who killed the killer. The game is on; catching criminals is the one thing Sebastian Bergman knows how to do best.

    Product Description

In Swedish with English Subtitles Before anyone else played the part, Rolf Lassgård established the role of Kurt Wallander in the original Swedish film adaptations of Henning Mankell's bestselling crime novels. With his ragged, very human portrayal of the world-weary detective, Lassgård set the standard for all other actors who would follow. Kurt Wallander is a cop who gets the job done; decades of coming up against criminal minds have honed his instincts for investigations and he knows where to draw the line between the job and personal vendettas..usually. He does the work on his own terms, however, so he's constantly on the outs with supervisors and under the threat of suspension. Becoming a great cop has also created damage in all his personal relationships. But just because he's neglected all the people he loves doesn't keep him from trying to connect with his daughter, Linda, and his on-again, off-again colleague/girlfriend, Maja. He may be a lousy father and a lousier boyfriend, but nobody in Ystad does police work like Kurt Wallander. And nobody plays him like Rolf Lassgård.

The Man Who Smiled - Kurt Wallander is contacted by an old friend who suspects his father's accidental death wasn't really an accident at all. He discovers unsettling evidence that his friend and his friend's father were connected with numerous shady companies. In a desperate quest for the truth, Wallander manages to betray himself and those he loves the most, and puts his own career in jeopardy.

Firewall, Parts 1 & 2 - A taxi is found abandoned, smashed up and full of blood. Two young girls are brought in for questioning, and confess to murdering the taxi driver, but they refuse to say where the body is. The next day a man named Falk is found dead at an ATM, receipt in his hand. Falk was a brilliant, mild-mannered computer programmer who kept to himself. Two apparently unrelated case, or are they?

The Pyramid - A light plane crashes near a beach and few days later, two elderly sisters are killed in their sewing supply shop. Both crime scenes show evidence of explosive weaponry. Were the sisters caught in the crossfire of gang warfare? Wallander makes a strange discovery about one of the suspects, which leads him back to a traumatic experience from his early days on the force.
